Aviation

Hands on experiences, both in the air and on the ground.

The Challenge

Aviation is a complex, fast moving and highlight technological environment. In 100 years, the Royal Air Force has evolved from slow biplanes to pilot-less drones and supersonic strike aircraft. We provide challenging aviation based experiences for our cadets, from state of the art simulators, to engineering experiences right through to hands on gliding and powered flight in our fleet of Viking gliders and Tutor powered aircraft.

Value

Aviation activities are a fantastic way for young people to develop the skills of teamwork and discipline. Our aviation offering is unmatched, with the opportunities for cadets to learn about aeronautical engineering, physics and materials right through to the principles of flight, culminating in hands on time at the controls of one of our aircraft.

Cadets who demonstrate airmanship potential can apply for a gliding scholarship or flying scholarship, leading them to their first solo flight, in many cases before they can drive a car.

Aviation activities take our cadets out of their comfort zones, from precision high tech engineering to flying aerobatics, we can offer an experience unavailable elsewhere.
